A Place to Call Home

Climate, Geography, and Living Conditions

Climate

Carlsbad is considered a high desert due to moderate rainfall and elevation of 3,300 feet. Don’t be fooled by the “desert” label. There is a distinct change of all four seasons without the snow, sub-zero cold, or torrential rains. You probably wouldn’t want to jump in the Pecos River during December, but it’s always a great time to cook on the barbeque.

Geography

The land in Carlsbad is mostly flat with the highest point, “C” Hill, providing an outstanding view of the city. Gentle hills surround Carlsbad for miles to the north and south gradually becoming high mountain country in some areas.

Living Conditions

Carlsbad is fortunate to have a diverse employer base. Mining, agriculture, healthcare, education, and tourism provide a stable economy. The strong employment foundation adds to the stability of our community. More than half of the community is married and nearly 15% of Carlsbad’s population is over the age of 65.
